On January 28th 2014 Norsvin not only updated the breeding goals, but also the technology used when estimating breeding values.
This major revision includes the largest and therefore most important changes since Norsvin started estimating breeding values by using BLUP methodology more than twenty years ago. The updated breeding goals will result in a substantial increase in the total genetic gain.
The update includes three different elements:
2. Modification of trait definitions, better models, inclusion of new traits, and as a consequence, re-estimated genetic parameters.
3. Adjusted economic weights of the different traits in the aggregated breeding goals.
